Hard times

Up here in my little backwater neck of the woods in Northern Minnesota it is some times hard to find things. When I say this, I often relate it mostly to shooting because it is my primary hobby.

In my region, when one wanders into a gun shop he can find guns galore but not magazines, holsters, cases, vests, light mounts or anything else. Sure you can buy an AR-15 at three separate stores but forget mags and most certainly forget decent defensive ammo.

That part I've gotten used to and I often risk it and order almost everything shooting related from the internet.

Well, gun stuff and also yo-yos, my other passion. You can't find a decent Yo up here either. Anyway, I'm getting off track. Point is, yesterday I went on the look for 7.62 x 39 ammo. Which, for those of you who are cartridge savvy, you will recognize as the prime meal of choice for the AK-47. My rifle of choice for this cold northern climate.

After school, I scoured four separate shops and managed to come away with the last 4 (and I'm not kidding) smashed boxes of 7.62x39 containing 20 rusting cartridges per box at $9.99 for each box. I talked the guy at the counter down to $7 a box but I still felt as if I was getting the short end of the stick.
